Tehran Culture and Islamic Department Director:

Executive Affairs of Theater Handed Over to Province’s Performing Arts Association

Director general of Tehran Culture and Islamic Department believes that the more specialized and executive matters of theater will be handed over to associations, which are professional and more concerned, the better the works are done.

Barzin Sarghami, director general of Tehran Culture and Islamic Department, told Iran Theater that holding educational workshops to increase awareness of theater family in provincial cities and towns was necessary.

I have been in touch with different theater groups of Tehran province. One of their most important demands raised by artists has been education,” the official said. “One of the issues said in the closing ceremony of Tehran Province Theater Festival last year was that to hold educational courses for professional and beginner theater groups rather than performing works.”

He explained that Tehran Performing Arts Association was launched with registration of 49 groups in first stage and 20 new groups this year, hoping that the department could support association and active theater groups of Tehran more.

The department, he said, signed an agreement with association to invite instructors to teach at theater workshops for those interested in performing arts in cities of Tehran province.

Mr Zarghami said that such workshops had so far been held in Qarchak, Varamin and Pishva, which helped improve theater, hoping that the steps taken in this regard by the association would continue.

He stressed that handing over of specialized and executive affairs to associations would help works to move ahead more smoothly as they commit less trial and errors and are more stable compared to officials.
