Hamid Pourazari, Director of Offstage Section of 36th Fadjr International Theater Festival:

Theater Not Limited to Auditoriums

Hamid Pourazari, director of Offstage Section of 36th Fadjr International Theater Festival, said that the offstage section of the festival would educate the audience that theater was not limited to venues and performing arts could be performed in spaces other than theater venues.

Out of stage section of the festival, which opened on January 18 in Tehran, includes diversified plays and outdoor performances, making it one of the most attractive sections of the festival for theater lovers, Iran Theater reported.

Pourazari told Iran Theater that offstage or out of stage section was included in the festival with this idea that the city was a stage and its streets had the very right to host quality performances.

He explained that 41 performances would be performed during the festival, six of them are international and will be in the international competition section.

One of the most important performances of the festival is 'Invisible Cities' from Italy, said Pourazari, adding that it is one of the biggest productions of the offstage, which is set in Qasr Garden/Prison.

He explained that the Italian group had been for a week in Tehran to make the location ready while the director came to the city three weeks ago to choose the location.

"What is happening in the production is that the former identity of Qasr Prison will be changed into a new one through seeing things that we had not seen there in the past," he said. "In fact, the tunnels are created by fabrics, lighting and video projections to give a visual identity to the place."

Pourazari said that besides acting, the main elements of the performance are fabrics, lighting and video projection, adding that about 30 Iranian performers to add to the Italian group to become population of the city.
