An Interview with Andia Noshad, Director & Writer of 'Ketu'

A Narration of Emptiness in Human Soul

Andia Noshad is a graduate of theater from Art University and Tarbiat Modarres University. She has started professional theater career in 2005. She has both acting and direction record. She has collaborated with noted directors such as Hossein Farrokhi and Atila Pesiani. She has had effective presence in academic theater, performance and puppetry.

'Ketu' is a performance art, telling about futile efforts, unfulfilled lives, giving priority to cheap objectives rather than brilliant goals, distance from relatives, low self-confidence, emptiness in the soul which gives us an urge to distance from material world and take solace in poetry, art and spirituality. Indian astronomy says that all of these happens when Ketu is located in a certain place when we were born. Noshad talks more about her piece.

Have you taken the name of your performance from Indian culture?

Yes. 'Ketu' is an ancient Indian tale. When the water to get eternal was divided to Gods, a monster wanted to become immortal by taking a sip of the water. Gods notice and behead the monster. The body and head take different path. The body without head is Ketu. The head is Rahu.

Have you staged it at Da Theater Complex?

Yes. It is a performance art, focusing to show the emptiness in the soul of humans. Their efforts to reach a place but to no avail. In street show performance for Fadjr festival, it focuses on humans who escape from themselves and seek identity. I believe we can transfer ideas through body language better than words. I believe performance and performance art can heal more than theater.  I think the images of a performance art can live on the mind of spectators for years. Performance can connect with people of any taste.

How many times have you taken part at Fadjr Festival?

This is my second time.

What is its difference from other festivals?

It is international. It gets together artists from many Iranian cities. It focus is theater and artists take part with their best works.

'Ketu' will have performance on Tuesday and Friday at the outdoor area surrounding the City Theater Complex.

The festival, which opened on January 18, will close on January 29. Farhad Mohandespour is the director.
