Mahdi Shafiee Unveils '2 Liters X 2 Liters Peace'

Sacred Defense Mean Iranians Love Peace rather War

A ceremony to unveil a book by Hamid Reza Azarang, Iranian theater director and playwright, was held at Paliz Theater Complex of Tehran on Wednesday.

Mahdi Shafiee, director general of Dramatic Arts Center, attended the ceremony, which unveiled Azarang's '2 Liters X 2 Liters Peace', Iran Theater reported.

Azarang regretted at the ceremony that the bitter days of war (Iran-Iraq war (1980-88 had made him unable to narrate joyful and peaceful things and wished that theater would give an opportunity to his kid and other children of this nation to display friendship, peace and freedom.

Azarang thanked Nouda Publishing House for publishing his play, expressing gratitude to Mahdi Shafiee as a theater official whose taking office as director general of Dramatic Arts Center had helped improve the country's theater.

"I have no doubt that effective efforts of Mahdi Shafiee will positively remain in the history of Iran Theater," he said.

Shafiee stressed the need for paying attention to social phenomenon including war, which is one of the most influential social matters, saying that choosing the title of "Sacred Defense" for Iran-Iraq war reflects how much Iranians love peace and avdoi war.

Shafiee said that Hamid Azarang had criticized the impacts of war over the past two decades as its social consequences playing war veterans, prisoners of war and families of the martyrs.

The large print of the cover of Azarang's '2 Liters X 2 Liters Peace' was signed by Shafiee, Sanaz Bayan, theater director, Manouchehr Akbarlou, theater critic, and Siavosh Tahmores, theater director and actor.    

Azarang won the best dramatist award of the 30th Fadjr International Theater Festival for '2 Liters X 2 Liters Peace'.
