Iran Theater- Theater director and pioneer of traditional puppet show in Iran Behrouz Gharibpour will restage Opera of Ashura at Ferdowsi Theater Hall in Tehran.

The performance of this opera will be from 29 spetember to 3 October .

The opera, which is centered on a religious tragedy, depicts the incidents leading to the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam and his 72 followers on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Muharram.

 

Gharibpour’s Ashura has been staged in many international theater festivals in Spain, Algeria, Syria, Poland and Italy.The play was warmly received at the Charleville-Mezieres’s International Puppet Theatre Festival in France, 2011, when it was given two extra performances.Gharibpour’s Hafez opera puppet show was  also went on stage in Dubai during three-day program from November 18 through 20,2013.

The latest work of Aran group was a puppet opera dedicated to Persian polymath and poet Omar Khayyam (1048-1131).

Gharibpour, 68, studied theater at University of Tehran and at Dramatic Arts Academy in Rome. He founded puppet theater centers in Tehran and Esfahan. He is a veteran in writing and directing  theater, puppet theater, movies, documentaries and TV series. He is also known for his wide research on Iranian puppetry as was commonly practiced during the Qajar era (1785-1925).

Several international awards, including Sirene d’Oro 2008 from Italy’s puppet theater festival of Arrivano dal Mare, are among his honors.

Ferdowsi Hall, the venue of the opera, is located on Shahryar Blvd., Hafez St., south of Enqelab St.
