Int'l Section of 11th Edition to Host Poland, Italy and Armenia

Director of the Dramatic Arts Center said that Marivan Street Theater Festival will host two pieces and one educational workshop in its international section and introduced the jury members.

Mehdi Shafiei, director of the Dramatic Arts Center of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and Hojattol Islam Rahim Jafari, director general of Kurdistan Culture and Islamic Guidance Department, attended a press conference of the festival on Wednesday, irantheater.ir reported.

Mr Shafiei appointed Dr Atollah Koupal, Behrouz Gharibpour and Dr Saeed Asai as jury members of the festival.

He said that one of the outstanding features of the festival was that it was organized in a city bordering Iraq due to braveries of the country's soldiers and listed the dynamic and energetic audience of Marivan as another asset for the festival, turning the city into Kurdistan cradle of theater.

Ten of the pieces of the festival would eventual be admitted into street section of Fadjr International Theater Festival, he added.

The festival would host "Black Castle" from Armenia and "Wave of the Flag" from Italy and a workshop from Poland in its international section, the official said and added that the minister of culture and Islamic guidance would arrive in Marivan on Thursday to attend the closing ceremony of the festival.

Mr Jafari also termed Marivan Street Theater Festival as an international event and one of the most important festivals of the country.

"It can be said decisively that street theater is one of the important medium to show the public demand," he said.

Mr Jafari said that Marivan festival would be held with 25 theater groups from Iran and three from Poland, Italy and Armenia in competitive, non-competitive, ritual and research sections.

The poster of the festival was unveiled at the end of the gathering.
