35th Fadjr International Theater Festival & Review of New Generation Section

A Competition for Young Talents

New Generation Section of 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival hosts 10 performances by young directors from Tehran and other provinces. They have been chosen from among 104 works submitted to the secretariat of the festival.

New Generation Section is exclusive for under-35 directors, who have not taken part in the festival more than twice. The pieces should have at least seven nights of public performances, irantheater.ir reported.

“Formalities”, written by Erfan Ghafouri, directed by Ramin Akbari from Tehran

“Formalities” was taken part in the 19th Student Theater Festival. It was staged in Konesh Moaser Theater in the spring. Mansour Nasiri, Saeed Mardi, Shahriar Fard, Hossein Hosseinian, Davoud Sobhani, Navid Fayyaz, Solmaz Shoaei and Jafar Kermani play in “Formalities”.

“Da”, written by Fatemeh Rezaei and Mohammad Reza Taheri, directed by Zahra Tanouri from Fasa

“Da” was staged in the 19th Student Theater Festival. “Da” is the story of a wretched Lur mother and is staged in Bakhtiari Lur accent. It pictures the story of a boy called Zargham who faces a certain difficulty since childhood, causing the villagers treat him and his family with cruelty. But his mother protects him against all cruelties.

“A Mid-Summer Night Nightmare”, written by Mehdi Asadzadeh, director Shokoufeh Taheri from Tehran

“A Mid-Summer Night Nightmare” was performed for five nights in Namayesh Kargah in 2014 and was welcomed by the audience and critics. Vahid Nafar, Erfan Ebrahimi, Ebrahim Azizi, Maysa Mowlavi and Parham Yadollahi are the cast.

“Melancholy Cycle” is written and directed by Mohammad Javad Sorami from Isfahan

“Melancholy Cycle” is an adaptation of “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare, which deals with Ophelia’s ill-fated love. The story has a non-linear narration and is not loyal to the main story.

Shohreh Mousavi, Iman Falahati, Mohammad Radmehr, Kaveh Karimian, Mohammad Ghorbani, Soheil Habibian, Sara Eshtiaghi, Kowsar Khoshnazar, Faraz Shirani, Mahdis Ghabezi and Samaneh Ebrahimi are the cast.

“My Inside Yerma”, written and directed by Setareh Tabrizzadeh from Isfahan (conditioned)

It is a dramatic performance art, which uses mixed arts to cover the deep layers of the story, making audience curious to connect images together and understand it.

Zahra Shafie’, Faraz Shirani, Ramtin Sadeghinejad and Setareh Tabrizzadeh play in “My Inside Yerma”.

 

“Lucia”, written and directed by Shahab Mehrabanpour from Tehran

“Lucia” staged in Tehran’s Baran Theater in the spring and was welcomed by audience. Sepehr Zamani, Nikan Rast Ghalam, Javad Pouladi, Amir Mohammadi, Fatima Baharmast and Sanaz Tari play in “Lucia”.

 

“Kitchen”, written and directed by Mohammad Reza Radmand from Tehran

“Kitchen” pictures incidents in a coffee in a day in a historic neighbourhood in Tehran. Amir Jenani, Noushin Masoudian, Atiyeh Torabi, Fatemeh Sadeghi, Pedram Samadi, Mohammad Reza Rahmati, Sadeghi Perghoei and Mahdokht Molaei.  

                                                                                                                                          

Memoirs of the Actor in a Supporting Role”, which is written by Bahram Beyzai and directed by Afshin Zamani from Tehran

It is the story of Mohebat and Zolfaghar who come to the capital for finding a job.

Mohammad Reza Khademi, Pantea Marzbanian, Soheil Saei, Maryam Goldouz Tavakoli, Amir Sotoudeh, Mehdi Bozorgzadeh, Mohammad Abouhamzeh, Mahdis Tavakoli, Vahid Kolyaei, Nariman Abedi, Bayayna Mahmoudi, Morteza Eftekhari, Mehdi Sarbiayee, Niloufar Mostafaei and Afshin Zamani plays in the 80-minute piece.

 

“Oxygen”, written by Mahsa Ghafourian and Mehdi Zia Chamani, directed by Mehdi Zia Chamani from Mashhad

“Oxygen” is the third consecutive year of Mehdi Zia Chamani and Mahsa Ghafourian as writer and director in the Fadjr Theater Festival. Mohammad Reza Solati, Mahsa Ghafourian and Mehdi Zia Chamani play in the piece.

 

“Emergency Exit”, written by Sanaz Asadi and Rafe’h Rostami, directed by Mehrdad Mostafavi from Tehran

“Emergency Exit” is the contemporary storu of relationships between youth in Iran. It visualizes two brothers –Farhad and Hossein –which have travelled to northern Iran to hold marriage of the little brother Hossein. Farhad will figure out that Leila, a girl who is his friend now, used to have relationships with his brother.

The cast members include Aidin Bahari, Sajjad Tabesh, Nafiseh Zare’, Sorour Arabpour and Amir Qazvini.

It should be mentioned that Nader Borhani-Marand, Massoud Mousavi and Reza Mehdizadeh had been member of the selection board of New Generation Section of the 35th Fadjr International Theater Festival. Saeed Asadi is the secretary of the event, which will run until January 31.
