Mikaeel Shahrestani to Direct “Melodi-e Shahr-e Barani”

Mikaeel Shahrestani will direct “Melodi-e Shahr-e Barani (Melody of a Rainy City)” from May 2 in Mehr Theater. “Melodi-e Shahr-e Barani” is written by later Iranian playwright Akbar Radi.

“Melodi-e Shahr-e Barani” tells the story of a wealthy family living in northern city of Rasht after World War II. The senior of the family passes away and the eldest child is coming to the hometown after seven years of studying in Switzerland. This is the beginning of a series of events, irantheater.ir reported.

Mr Shahrestani is going to picture the play, one of the most famous written by Mr Radi, with a new approach.

Mr Shahrestani directed a mix of seven plays by Mr Radi in 2014. “Melodi-e Shahr-e Barani” will be performed every day at 19:00.

Born in Rasht in 1939, Akbar Radi studies social sciences in Tehran University. His first play, Rain, was published when he was 20 years old.

Mr Radi died in Tehran in 2007. His works were compared to those of Anton Chekhov and Henrik Ibsen.

His famous plays include Melody of a Rainy City, The Descent, The Fishermen, Death in Autumn, The Glorious Smile of Mr. Gil and Beneath the Saqqakhaneh Passage.
