Iran Theater: "Simple Pieces" is a play on loneliness of modern human. Shokoufeh Hashemian had managed to have a correct understanding of Maryam in the play. Holding a MA in theater from Art and Architecture Faculty, Ms Hashemian has been a theater photographer. She has played in several plays and series.
Ms Hashemian played in previous performance of the play seven years ago. The play was warmly welcomed by the audience back then. The play tells the story of a middle-aged woman during the thirteen days of New Year holidays. She is reviewing her diary. "Simple Pieces" is about the life and concerns of contemporary human. It is a play about women.
Mehdi Mirmohammadi is the writer of the play. Sima Tirandaz, Elham Shakib, Kaveh Khodashenas, Elnaz Shahverdi, Ali Dastanpour, Haleh Gorji, Farzaneh Sokouti, Reza Sakhaei and Shokoufeh Hashemian act in the play.
Do you care more about acting than photography recently?
I have a medical issue in my neck and hands. Doctor has forbidden me to carry any heavy thing. Therefore, I do not do photography. Of course, I had not been away from photography too. I am a member of board of directors of Photographers of Iran Theater Forum.
Do photographers have enough opportunities given the high number of them?
Everyone has his/her own chance. If a photographer works well, he/she could have his/her chance despite tough competition.
You have a record in television. Is it as important as acting in theater?
Theater is my prime interest.
"Simple Pieces" is about women. How much does this motivate you?
Playing in such pieces is valuable for me. It is better to have a distinguished content. "Simple Pieces" and playing as Maryam give me a different experience.
Had you played in previous performance of "Simple Pieces"?
Yes. I played the role of the woman fortuneteller. When we started rehearsal for the new performance, Ali Hashemi, the director, said he did not want any member of the cast to play their previous characters.
Did you like to play a new role?
I liked to act as the woman fortuneteller.
Why did not you like to play the role of Maryam?
I was afraid to play the role of Maryam. Elham Korda played the role previously. She did a great job and I was worried to play the role. The most difficult day of my performance was the day Elham Korda watched the play as a spectator.
