Masoud Delkhah: Over 80 Actors on Stage

On the importance of culture and theater, Mr Delkhah said that improving culture was not mission to be done by an individual body or institution and it needs supports of all official bodies including the radio and television, Iran Theater reported.

Then, a video of the rehearsal of the cast aired for the media people.

Mr Delkhah explained later that his play was costing with big number of actors at a time most plays had a few actors and had not been costly.

He added that he had the future in the perspective and had to stage plays which help improve the culture and support the youth. On the other hand, he said, the spectators of his works should choose between a small play with two or three actors or splendid pieces with high number of cast.

Mr Delkhah said he did not see any problem in small performances but the challenge would occur when all theater halls were willing to give all their theater spaces to such pieces.  

He said that the problem of theater in Iran was that the number of directors had been more than actors and those with financial power could take good theater venues such as Vahdat Hall and main auditorium of the City Theater for their pieces and the real and genuine could be purged.

The issue of [cinema] celebrities in theater had been outdated in the Europe in the 18^th century but Iran was walking in that path now, Mr Delkhah regretted.

On invitation for selection of the cast of "Mephisto", Mr Delkhah said that he put the invitation online in the winter and it was welcomed by 700 university students.

"Mephisto" had 80 cast members of who 32 were main characters, 22 were in chorus and 10 were the instrument player, he said.
