The 23rd Red Tulip Theater Festival in Andimeshk in southeastern province of Khuzestan closed on December 1 in a ceremony attended by director general of Dramatic Arts Center, Mahdi Shafiee, Mohammad Jorvand, director general of Khuzestan Culture and Islamic Guidance Department, and a large group of city's people and local officials.
The festival opened on November 27 in the city as a commemoration to 75 civilians, who martyred in Andimeshk on November 25, 1986 during the Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988), known in the country as sacred defense.
Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein ordered the bombardment of the civilian targets in the city on November 25, 1986 for about 1.45 minutes with 52 warplanes. 75 civilians were martyred.
Shafiee delivered a speech at the ceremony, saying that many artists were involved in cultural activities in the country with no expectation. He urged that making plans for art and artists was an undeniable necessity for the society, Iran Theater reported.
The official stressed that potentials and capacities of the art should be tapped to convey messages of epics of different eras of Iran history to the society, adding that the epic resistance of people of Andimeshk on November 25, 1986 during the sacred defense would be etched in Iran history and art could convey message of such sacrifices.
The festival which has reach a high status by art lovers and artists could remind sweet memories to all artists, he said.
Jorvand said that Khuzestan theater had a good status and the festival played a role in this regard, hoping that the festival would be held as an international event next year.
The winners of the festival was announced later by secretary of the festival.
