Ja’far Vali:Dramatic Arts Need New Attitude

The International Ritual-Traditional Theater Festival should be a window for representing the rituals.

IRAN THEATER – “Generally I do not agree with these kinds of festival and I think that the budget should be invested in the themes of the festivals. Thus, we will surly witness development and extension in this trend of theater. However, holding such festivals can vitalize the Iranian rituals and subcultures.” The experienced playwright and theater director, Ja’far Vali, said to the news headquarters of the festival.

“Today we need research materials more than ever. In fact, our traditional theater should be introduced to the people once more.”

“Ta’ziye and Takhte Hozi are two ancient Iranian performances of considerable antiquity. Therefore, we should try to maintain them.” Vali said, mentioning that theater in Iran is not as antique as in India, China, and Greek. “Via this festival we can compete with the traditional eastern and Grecian performing arts.”

“We should change our attitude towards the traditional arts and experience new forms and take a contemporary look to the field. They really need fresh consideration, because a modern attitude does not spoil them, but will enrich and promote the traditional performing arts.”

The 14th International Ritual-Traditional Theater Festival will take place from Jul 30 to Aug 7 in Tehran.
