Awal Theater Festival-6

MORE than 32 Bahraini artists, writers and thespians have been honoured as part of the sixth annual Awal Theatre Festival.

The nine-day event, which is also marking the theatre's 40th anniversary, is being held under the patronage of Culture and Information Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.
She launched the event along with ministry Under-Secretary Mohammed Al Banki, Shura Council members, ambassadors, artists, authors and poets.
Theatre's president Abdullah Malak said he wanted this year's festival to highlight the 40 years the theatre has been in existence.
"We have been keen to select outstanding shows by professional Arab and foreign groups without renouncing our role in supporting youngsters in and outside Bahrain," he added.
Actors from across the GCC, Lebanon and France have been invited to perform at the festival, while special anniversary publications will be launched as part of the celebrations.
Mr Malak also honoured Shaikha Mai, Mr Al Banki, French Ambassador Yves Oudin, his Lebanese counterpart Aziz Azzi and the Bahrain Radio and Television Corporation for their support of the local arts scene.
All performances are free and begin at 8pm at the Cultural Hall, near Bahrain National Museum
