The Price

This essential Arthur Miller drama tells the story of Victor and Walter Franz, brothers who haven't spoken to one another in 16 years.

We meet them in 1968 in their late father's Manhattan brownstone, which is set to be torn down.  The Franz brothers, along with Victor's wife, Esther, are facing each other again to clear the attic and, perhaps, clear the air of a lifetime's worth of baggage.  There to help them sort through the remnants is a near 90-year-old antiques dealer who brings wit and wisdom to the proceedings.
"One of the most entertaining plays that Miller has ever written."  - The New York Times

"The Price" is 42 years old, written in a dark hour of American history by one of the country's harshest critics, yet it still seems contemporary with its account of the psychic damage from economic collapse, here the Great Depression.
The real strength of the play is in its wonderfully written roles for actors. Mr. Miller was an old-fashioned playwright who admitted he wrote this conventional play in reaction to the "surge of avant-garde plays" filling the theaters of the 1960s.
Pittsburgh Public Theater director Tracy Brigden has gathered a quartet of experienced players who fill their roles with the aching humanity and ruefulness that Mr. Miller is so skilled in creating.
