Iran Theater: Saeed Heshmati is a graduate of cinema. He has tried to focus on human topics to create moments which create new meanings. Given that Mr Heshmati has started with acting, followed by direction, he has always taken this subject into account.
He has played in 'Medea', 'Whispers of Midnight', 'Whale' and 'Fools Go to Hell'. 'A Doll's House' is his debut direction. Mr Heshmati has talked about the experience with Iran Theater.
Why have you chosen 'A Doll's House' by Henrik Ibsen?
I chose it because it deals with human relationships, which will never be an old subject. In other words, human relations have always been a new subject. I should add this up that the subject is updated based on the needs of today's society. I decided to direct the play because we, humans, need to review our relationships.
Is your piece influenced by problems of the modern world?
Yes. We needed to take a glance at today's matters in the world and connect it to today's man. Of course, the norms of the year the play was written are not in place now. In fact, norms have changed and topics that make the characters busy have changed too. I should say that we have updated the norms to picture the cold human relationships. Each character who enters this world is following his/her own gain. This is not a good phenomenon. Such behaviors are criticized in 'A Doll's House'.
What points have been important for you in direction?
My whole focus has been on the relations of the characters in direction. I think that is the point of this play. It is important the cast will reach a correct level of the story of this play to be able to understand reasons behind the relationships and dialogs.
