Six Plays on Ashura on Stage

The Supervision and Overseeing Council has issued permission for performance of six new plays on Ashura, tenth of lunar month Muharram and the day the third Shia Imam Hussein was martyred in the battle of Karbara, and the sacred defense (Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988)).

Theater complexes in the capital Tehran host these new plays in October and November, Iran Theater reported.

'3rd Tir', written and directed by Seyyed Mostafa Hashemi Tabar, will start on October 25 at Pardis Theater Complex on Muharram.

'Khatoun' has been performing at Andisheh Hall of Artistic Center of Islamic Propagation Organization since October 15. The play is written and directed by Hossein Alambakhsh on Ashura and will have performance within the next two weeks.

'Rahmard' is written and directed by Hamed Hoshyari with religious and ritual elements about Ashura. It opened on October 17 and will have performances for the next 12 days.

'Down the Saghakhaneh Pass', which is written by late celebrated playwright Akbar Radi, is directed by Hamed Aghayei. It started on October 16 and will continue until mid-November at Keshavarz Hall of Tehran Pardis Theater Complex.

'Insane', which is written by Somayeh Najafi, is directed by Omid Yarandi at Nasirian Hall of Tehran Pardis Theater Complex. It started on October 15 and will have performances for more than a week.    

'Don't Let This Dream comes true', which is written and directed by Mehdi Nasiri, is about the sacred defense. It has performances at Sayeh Hall of the City Theater Complex for about 19 days.

The Supervision and Overseeing Council has given permission to 17 plays last week of which three are about children and young adults. 'Picnic in the Battlefield' by Maryam Radpour will be performed at Ostadmohammad Hall of Tehran Pardis Theater Complex.

'Lachak Goli (Red Scarfed)' will be directed by Morteza Moghaddam and 'The Sun Butterfly' will be directed by Ali Borji.  

Five plays will be read at Paytakht, Gandom, 3 Noghteh, Baran and Namayesh complexes while 'Game City' will be directed by Bamdad Afshar at Paliz Theater Complex.
