Iran Theater: Theater and cinema are two important mediums of the world art and visual media. They have had many fans and lovers over the years. The two medium have attracted many artists to tell their ideas and theories since they were born. This has led to competition among them to reflect subjects.
Iran Theater has conducted an interview with Manouchehr Akbarlou, author, critic, correspondent, researcher, translator and university instructor on the subject.
Why spectators show more enthusiasm towards theater than cinema today?
We should study the question to know whether it is correct or not. Have we conducted an academic research or are there any acceptable statistics showing that audiences of theater have grown compared to cinema?
Contrary to you, I suppose the number of audiences has not changed but it is distributed among various halls of theater. But I think the culture of going to theater is improving among the youth. The reason behind this improvement should be assessed through a research whether it is because more television and cinema celebrities are starring in theater or plays are getting more diversified or directors pay heed to taste of spectators more…
Do you see this improvement in change in the approach of cultural officials?
It is undeniable. Officials have made decisions which led to diversification of form and content of dramatic products willingly or unwillingly. It is naturally increasing the demand for a product. Therefore, the change in approach grows the spectators willingly or unwillingly.
How much improvement in talent of artists played a part in the change in the approach?
Producer makes a cultural product based on the demand and the general atmosphere of the society. The more their products deal with the general subjects of the society the more the audiences welcome them. That means increases in theater audiences.
