Iran Theater: Human and his surrounding world can be subjects of many plays. One of these subjects is immigration, which acts like a double-edged sword. It can lead to happiness or misery.
Elaheh Pourjamshid hold a bachelor degree in physical sciences and an associate diploma in filmmaking. She has so far received some honorary diploma for her acting in plays such as ‘Magic and Talisman’, ‘Legacy’, ‘Radical Life’ and ‘Poughabad’.
She talks with Iran Theater about ‘Athens-Moscow’ in an exclusive interview.
How do you evaluate plays on social theme?
Theater is about social issues per ser. Social themes are seen in many plays. Of course, the form may change in the course of time…In fact, theater has a simple language that can connect with the audience directly…
Immigration has been a popular subject of dramatic art. What is the difference between ‘Athens-Moscow’ and other pieces of the similar topic?
Its comical aspect and simplicity are among important points of the piece. It is dealing with the subject easily and smoothly.
Do you think such approach has helped the play has a high quality?
Definitely… It has attractive and understandable characters, which its real examples could be easily found in the society. This helps the subject could be understandable soon.
‘Athens-Moscow’ has both comedy and tragedy. What are their importance?
It is clear that there is an elegant border between tragedy and comedy. When we are picturing something wrongly it is comedy and vis-à-vis is tragedy. But when tragedy and comedy come along, moments turn into the reality. Everything is in league with life when it reaches to comedy.
Do you think the play has been successful in showing immigration and its violent impacts through a comical language?
It has been somehow successful. Comedy helps picturing bitter topics in a simple and sweet language.
Athens-Moscow is a comedy, written by Greek playwright Evdokimos Tsolakidis. Athens-Moscow is his first play, which was staged and directed by him on 2001-2003.
It is about sisters Olga and Massa from Russia who live in Greece. Irena, a sibling, arrives and ignites suspicions of one another on whether Massa work at the musical academy or is a drug dealer and Is Irena really a nun or involved with the Russian weapon mafia?
The piece, which will be performed until November 7, is directed by Amir Hossein Rohnia. Parastou Karami, Elaheh Pourjamshid and Aylar Nowshahri star in the 75-minute play. It is performed at Baran Theater at 19:00.
