'The Caucasian Chalk Circle' on Stage by Mahmoud-Reza Rahimi of Samandarian Academy

Mahdi Shafiee, director general of Dramatic Arts Center, Payman Shariati, director of the City Theater Complex, Sohrab Salimi, Hamid Labkhandeh, director of the Samandarian Theater Academy,  Ayoub Aghakhani, Kaveh Samandarian, Saeed Asadi, Reza Ashofteh and a number of artists watched the performance at the Sayeh Hall of the City Theater Complex, Iran Theater reported.

Mahmoud-Reza Rahimi is directing 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle', which is written by the German modernist playwright Bertolt Brecht, after a four-year hiatus. The piece by Rahimi premiered on Tuesday.

Mahdi Shafiee, director general of Dramatic Arts Center, said the opening performance that he was happy that Mahmoud-Reza Rahimi, one of the country's noted theater directors, was directing a piece and he was proud that a show by Samandarian Theater Academy was on stage these days.

Translation of masterpieces of the world dramatic literature was one of the most valuable theater-related activities, he said, adding that due heed must be paid to the status of translators.

Hamid Labkhandeh, director of the Samandarian Theater Academy, said that the play was result of educational courses of the academy and it was source of happiness that the performance was being staged at the Sayeh Hall of the City Theater Complex for the lovers of theater.

Mahmoud-Reza Rahimi, translator, dramaturge and director of 'The Caucasian Chalk Circle' said that the piece could not be staged if it was not the collaboration between the Dramatic Arts Center, the City Theater Complex and the Samandarian Theater Academy.

"Great artists such as Sohrab Salimi is present tonight for the performance who had been an actor in the piece, which was directed by the late Hamid Samandarian," he said and added, "It is a source of proud that he is present to see the piece as special guest."

Mohammad-Reza Rahimi has so far directed plays such as 'A Doll's House', 'A Streetcar Named Desire', 'Father' and 'The Ring of General Macias'.

He had been an assistant of Hamid Samandarian for years.

Mitra Sarollahi, Bahram Hajjafarizadeh, Anahita Khosrawi, Pardis Rafiee, Siamak Zeinoddini, Mohammad Sarafrazi, Mohammad Hossein Saeedi, Zohreh Shahmohammadi, Abbad Shakibfar, Seyyedeh Noushafarin Tousi, Nastaran Ghaziani, Rosa Karimi, Nima Labkhandeh, Sanaz Namdoust and Alireza Nasiri star in the piece.

'The Caucasian Chalk Circle' is performed every day except for Saturdays at the Sayeh Hall of the City Theater Complex at 20:00.
