In a Notebook on 'Two and a Half Clowns'

Parvaneh Mafi, Parliament Member, Proposes Officials to See Show

Iran Theater: Parvaneh Mafi, a member of the parliament and chairwoman of Sustainable Income Committee, wrote a notebook after seeing 'Two and a Half Clowns'.

The notebook read;

I watched 'Two and a Half Clowns', which is written and directed by Mr Jalal Tehrani, last night. It is a show with black sense of humor, which make audience laugh or cry on and off and this conflict makes human to think.

'Two and a Half Clowns' tells the story of humans in different societies throughout the history. The man who hides his real self by wearing masks. The globalized view of the creator of the show is notable. The humans who hide their true self because of fear or selfishness or greed and reveal another face of themselves. This is both laughable and disturbing because lie sits in the place of truth. It is a bad phenomenon, which we are seeing these days and 'Two and a Half Clowns' pictures it artistically.

Undoubtedly this is the power of art that can picture the social upheavals with the help of other sciences such as psychology and sociology. Cinema and theater have more impacts because of using pictures and images. Fortunately, the art of theater has a long history in Iran and one of its styles is pictured in Ta'zieh. Play writing as one of the important branches of literature has not reached the status it deserves after more than a century.

It enjoys a limited audience because of its purge and other members of the society have not welcomed this art. It also does not have a significant status among officials.

The official supports do not mean only financially rather than devoting time and paying attention of the artworks whether in cinema or theater, visiting photo and painting exhibitions and else, which could finally help develop the society.

The fact that officials must get familiar with the language of art in its all dimensions will assist the society.

The connection between officials and artists is a lost chain in the country, which should be found. After seeing this show and the acclaimed acting of its unprofessional and unknown performers, a conclusion can be reached that the world of art, especially theater can lighten the soul and travel the mind to another world.

I propose officials and colleagues to see the piece.
