Mahin Sadri:

Art Is Nothing Except for Raising Question

Iran Theater: 'Second Person' digs wounds, concerns, stresses, fears and doubts of today's human in a timeless and locationless ambience. Sadri has turned into a noted playwright in `recent years thanks to her 'Ham Havaei' and 'From Underground to Rooftop'.

She has started her career by writing 'Persian Cat', which was directed by Elham Korda. It was performed in 2010.

'Second Person' is on stage at Nazerzadeh Hall of Iranshahr Theater Complex. Setareh Eskandari, Elham Korda, Mahin Sadri and Maryam Hosseini star in the play, which had started on December 19.

Mohammad Hosseinzadeh is the production director, Rohullah Zandifard assistant director and planner, Shima Mirhamidi set designer, Ghazaleh Motamed costume designer, Mehrdad Motejali poster designer, trailer and photographer.

Mahin Sadril talks more about 'Second Person'.

Is 'Second Person' a new experience in your career to get away from documentary and monologue theater?

Yes. 'Second Person' is a new experience for me. I have reached from monologue to dialogue and there is no sign of documentary. The play has mental space and comes from subconsciousness. I had experienced such atmosphere in that past in 'Co-Roper' which included seven reports of documentary-orinted. I reached half-documentary form in 'Ham Havai' and then 'From Underground to Rooftop' has a form way different from documentary theater.

Wasn't you worried to lose so many audience who had liked your monologues and documentaries like 'Ham Havaei'?

When I write, I do not think about audience, my focus is on writing. But I expected that some may not connect to the new play because people get used to something and want the new shows of the director to be like her previous ones. 'Second Person' is very personal and emotional for me. I am sure it has its own fans.

Are you interested that the spectators will leave the auditorium with doubts and concerns and think about your play when he/she is heading home?

Yes. Art is nothing except for raising question and picturing it. I hate those plays whose directors try to show off he/she is smarter than audience. A play who helps audience reach a point of illumination is valuable.
