Iran Theater: The 36th Fadjr International Theater Festival, which opened on January 18, hosts plays and artists who won awards in the international section of the previous editions. Director of the festival, which will close on January 28, is Farhad Mohandespour.
Iran Theater introduces these guest plays.
One Hundred Years of Solitude
Atila Pesiani has a career in theater spanning four decades. He has been a prolific theater artist. He planned to stage the play in the previous editions but he could not. However, he made an adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez with Mohammad Charmshir, playwright. The two had co-authored Cherry Orchard of Anton Chekhov. No details are released of the new adaptation by Charmshir and Pesiani. The play will be staged on January 27 at 6 and 9 pm.
Aquarium
Aquarium is co-written by Siamak Ehsaei and Mehrak Qazvini, which has shuttle subjects. It has a bitter ending. A woman and a man who see one another through the windows of their rooms gradually fall in love. At the end, they are separated. But the separation is physical and they are spiritually into one another.
The play tells about by plainclothes inquisitors who pressure the man seriously to give information about the woman who is a writer. This makes woman to leave her house under threats of undercover forces.
Ehsaei had staged the play at Charsou Hall in the past. Aquarium has two performances today at 6 and 8:30 pm at Charsou Hall.
Horse
Arash Dadgard, the director, managed to show his talent again by Hamlet. He has invited young actors to his latest play Horse. He had said in the past that the play is time and energy-consuming, requiring devoted young cast.
It is an educational project, produced by Tehran Performing Arts Association. He has selected 15 out of 170 applicants for Horse. The 70-minute Horse has 30 audience in every performance because of its method. Horse will have four performances on January 26 to 28 at Vahdat Hall.
Second Person
Second Person is the story of stresses, concerns, fears and doubts of today's human in a timeless and placeless framework. Mahin Sadri has turned into a renowned name in the field of writing thanks to her Hamhavaei and From Underground to the Rooftop.
She had started career with Persian Cat, which was directed by Elham Korda. She starred in Hearing, Salgashtegi and Ivanov by Amir Reza Kouhestani. Second Person is the story of 30 years of a family which was staged at Nazerzadeh Kermani Hall of Iranshahr Theater Complex on the first day of festival on January 18.
List
Reza Servati has not had no performance for a few years. He has taken part in the festival this year with his last play List of the Dead.
List is the story of a conductor who wants to make a story for the dead. The music piece makes him reclusive to face the dead. The piece has performances today and tomorrow at Nazerzadeh Kermani Hall of Iranshahr Theater Complex.
And/Or/Prometheus
Shahab Agahi has directed Prometheus who stole fire from Olympus God Zeus to give it to man in Greek mythology. Zeus chained him to a rock where an eagle fed on his liver, which would grow back and eaten again the next day.
Prometheus will be performed on January 26 at Mowlavi Hall.
This Is Not a Pipe
This Is Not a Pipe takes its title from a painting by Belgium's surrealist painter Rene Magritte. The play tells about two brothers whose story in the house is told until a police comes to their place to investigate a murderer.
Both audience and critics loved previous play –Fatherless- by Mohammad Mosavat. This is Not a Pipe received enthusiasm by audience too. It was performed on the first day of festival on January 18 at Independent Theater Complex.
100 Percent
Loyd is not a renowned playwright in Iran. He is a contemporary writer whose works may be staged in Iran in the future a lot. Morteza Esmailkashi, actor-turned-director, has an acclaimed presence in theater of Iran in recent years. He had previously directed Three Sisters, showing he is a good director as a great actor.
100 Percent is the story of a young actor hired by a wealthy girl to play in her play. A psychological thriller unravels as he enters in the mansion.
100 Percent has performance at Iranshahr Theater Complex on January 28, the closing day of the festival.
Marat/Sade
Marat-Sade is a renowned play written by noted playwright Peter Weise. Iman Eskandari has an adaptation of the play, which is about the Persecution and Assasination of Jean-Paul Marat as Performed by the Inmates of the Asylum of Charenton under the Direction of Monsieur de Sade.
Iman Eskandari performed the play at Hafiz Hall on January 19.
