36th Fadjr International Theater Festival Closes on January 29

A Municipality-Worker-Turned-Actor Wins Award

Ali Mallahi, a simple worker at Hormuz Island's Municipality, received the top actor award of the 36th Fadjr International Theater Festival.

The closing ceremony of the festival was held at Vahdat Hall on January 29 in which culture and Islamic guidance minister. An honorary diploma and best actor statute and cash prize was given to Mallahi for starring at 'Numbers in Desert'. He was not taking part at the ceremony, Iran Theater reported.

Mohammad Salamati, director of the play, received his award because Mallahi could not attend the ceremony due to cancellation of his flight.

Salamati described Mallahi's dominance and simplicity as reasons for giving him the role.

Mallahi is a simple laborer in Hormuz Island's Municipality. He is cooperating with Shahid Abbas Salamati Theater Group for years but this was his first participation at Fadjr Theater Festival.  

'Numbers in Desert' received four music, acting, playwriting and set design awards of the festival.
