Masoud Delkhah to Direct 'King Lear'

Masoud Delkhah will direct 'King Lear', the tragedy by William Shakespeare, at the main auditorium of the City Theater Complex in the first two months of summer.
Masoud Delkhah who staged 'Mephisto' at Mowlavi Theater Complex recently to a rave review had managed to receive the best actor award and special director award of the internatonal competition of the 36th Fadjr International Theater Festival, Iran Theater reported.
He told the semi-official Mehr news agency on Sunday that he intended to stage 'King Lear' and he had become successful having main auditorium of the City Theater Complex after two year.
The director said 'King Lear' is one of the most difficult plays by Shakespeare to stage, adding that he would not direct the piece in a classic way and its dramaturgy would be deconstructed.
Delkhah reminded that he had staged 'Julio Cesar' the same way about 11 years ago, adding that 'King Lear' will be stage with a big, professional group in a modern way.
The director said that Akbar Zanjanpour, the noted actor, would play King Lear while piece's twelve main characters would be played by renowned actors and their names would be released soon.
He said that eight side characters would be played by young performers, adding that about 150 young students of theater applied to star in the roles with no dialogues. The interview would be conducted this week for two days to choose the final cast.
Delkhah said that the intensive rehearsal would start on April 15 although two months was not enough for such a major show.
