Ahmad Ziraki, director of 'King Snake', written by noted director and playwright Bahram Beyzaei, opened on March 4 at Khosrow Khorshidi Hall of Honar Theater Complex.
Ziraki said about the play that it has a fiction-like environment, stressing that Beyzaei's works occupy a unique status in Iran theater whose importance was certain for everybody. "But I think King Snake is very different of his other plays," he explained, according to Iran Theater. "Plays by Mr Beyzaei is a combination of philosophy and intellectual criticism of the society. However, he does not forget to reflect the essential issues of man. King Snake intends to criticize monopoly and absolute power in the background of fiction and tale," the director explained.
Ziraki said that his group was a student troupe, which reached the performance based on theory of Mikhail Bakhtin's carnivalesque.
'King Snake' premiered in 1960s by its playwright at 17 Shahrivar Hall (Sangelaj Theater Complex). The show was closed by the authorities after a few days of performance.
It was performed by Golab Adineh and Shohreh Lorestani to rave reviews in 1990s.
