Iran Theater- Shiva Masoudi, author of "Theoretical Theory of Puppet Theater" said the new branches of puppet theater are debates that have been less addressed at least in the performing arts books.
Shiva Masoudi is a writer, translator and researcher in the field of theater , puppet theater and is a faculty professor and director of the Department of Puppet Theater at the Faculty of Performing Arts and Music in Tehran University. She recently published "Theoretical Theory of Puppet Theater". The purpose of writing this book is to formulate the conceptual and formal principles of this field in order to achieve a plan for its theoretical foundations and to make this book a reference for research and performances.
Shiva Masoudi told to Iran Theater about her main approach to writing the book:” Personally, I do not believe that a distinct border should be placed between the puppet show and other forms of performing arts. In the introduction to the book, I have pointed out that the boundary between arts is very dim. So, in the book, I tried to address to the dimensions of the puppet theater that has been less paid attention, I means theoretical dimensions, the relationship between Puppet Theater with literature and visual arts.”
She added:” Overall, I was interested in the book being the theoretical source for theater students in the first place, and I would also like to discuss topics that are less talked about in the theater resources. I have tried to refer to Iranian examples in most parts of the book so that it can be compared correctly with the puppet show of other countries. I hope this book can be useful to students of the performing arts as well as other people interested in this art.”
