Iran Theater- Mehdi Shahpiri’s Pupa will be on stage at Indoor Section at the 17th Tehran-Mobarak International Puppet Festival.
Pupa tells the story of a king and Queen. Surprisingly, on the night of the full moon, The Queen gave birth to twin children, a redhead girl and a dead boy. The son will live with only one condition…
Puppet Designer and Maker is Mehrnoush Balmeh.
In an answer to the question that to what extent he paid attention to the elements such as innovation, surprise, right structure , he replied:
"It's true to me when I decide to start a new play and new experience .The first parameter I pay much attention is that I can, in addition to a new experience, be sure to have something new. In fact, if such features were not emphasized in the festival call, it makes no difference for me, and I always tried to pay attention to these things. While we are not very young yet, we are not too old and still have the opportunity to do new experience.”
He believes that the world of puppet theater has a vast room to experience.
He adds:” Pupa is loosely an adaptation of Medea by Euripides,. In fact, I believe that all the plays, even the most realistic texts, such as Ibsen's plays, can be adopted to puppet Theater, but in general, mythological plays such as Antigone, Oedipus, and etc need a general effort to run as puppet Theater. In this regard, "Medea" has a strange and magical atmosphere that, more than any other mythological plays, can run as a puppet performance.”
