Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi to go on stage At The City Theater Complex

Iran Theater- "The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi " by Friedrich Durrenmatt and directed by Ehsan Falahatpishe  will run at the main hall of the City Theater Complex.

Late Hamid Samandarian had translated The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi to farsi.

The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi (German: Die Ehe des Herrn Mississippi) is a play by the Swiss writer Friedrich Dürrenmatt. The play was written in 1950, but Dürrenmatt continued to revise it until 1980.It premiered on 26 March 1952 at the Munich Kammerspiele, directed by Hans Schweikart. It was then performed in Chile, and New York. The play was adapted into a 1961 film with the same title.Two Years ago, The Iranian director and playwright Homayoun Ghanizadeh adapted the play and staged the new production, Mississippi Dies Seated, at the Vahdat Hall in Tehran.

The comedy play is about Florestan Mississippi, a public prosecutor and a fanatical exponent of Mosaic law who has murdered his wife. He visits Anastasia, who confesses to having murdered her husband. After Mississippi has persuaded Anastasia to marry him as a gesture of grotesque retribution, the two dedicate themselves to presiding over a governmental system of “absolute justice” under which Mississippi sentences victims to death and Anastasia presides over their execution.
