Jafar Mahyari to Stage “Sculpture” in Stuttgart

Iran Threater-Writer and director Jafar Mahyari will stage “Sculpture”, a co- production  by German-based Dekoltas Handwerk Company and Iran's Zendegi theater company/Institute.

Written and directed by Mahyari, the play will be performed in Stuttgart and various cities in Germany and Iran in 2020 and 2021. Production is expected to begin in October.

Starring Jan Jedenak and Sonia Franken, The play is about a lonely woman struggling with her daily routine. To liberate herself, she enthusiastically begins to build a statue of a man. When the statue comes to life, things start to get complicated. The woman tries to teach the man to live, but he gradually becomes captive to the appearance of life and departs from his creator.

Azadehdokht Soudi and Farshad Nedaei will be collaborating on the project as assistant director.

Mahyari has previously directed plays such as “Stools”, “Beyond the Words”, and “The Chairs” in Italy, Germany, Canada, France and Poland.
