The Musical “Sweeney Todd” to go on stage

Iran Theater- Mohamad Niazi is going to direct the musical show “Sweeney Todd” in Mashhad and Tehran.

In an Interview with Iran Theater He confirmed the news and added :” I am going to direct "Sweeney Todd" at the Mashhad in March and I plan to perform it in Tehran as soon as possible. Initially, I was planning to stage it in Tehran for the first time, but this was not possible due to the crowded showrooms. The play is based on the work written by Steven Sondheim,  a  film was  made by  Tim burton and starring Johnny Depp based on the play  as well.”

He continued: I translated it myself and worked for a long time on the lyrics.”

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (often referred to simply as Sweeney Todd) is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler. It is based on the 1973 play of the same name by Christopher Bond. Sweeney Todd opened on Broadway in 1979 and in the West End in 1980. It won the Tony Award for Best Musical and Olivier Award for Best New Musical. It has since had numerous revivals as well as a film adaptation.

The citizens of London, who act as a Greek chorus throughout the play, drop a body bag and pour ashes into a shallow grave. Sweeney Todd rises forth ("The Ballad of Sweeney Todd"), and introduces the drama.

Mohamad Niazi explained:” Musical show is a kind of opera and opera has a huge impact on the audience because of its musicality. Basically, music is used to influence any kind of performance.”
