The International Theatre Institute (ITI) and the Piccolo Teatro di Milano organise the international Festival which takes place every two years and which involves theatrical schools and the productive activities of theatrical groups belonging to the most important Universities. The participants to the festival are invited to work on the theme The Stage is our Home / Between the Curtain and the Footlights we find a Home.

The period coincides with the conclusion of the three-year course held by the Piccolo Teatro School of Theatre, which will be making a direct contribution to the festival programme by participating with the end-of-course show for the “Giorgio Strehler” course.

The festival will see the participation of a dozen educational institutions, originating from all of the organisational macro-regions of ITI (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, Latin America, Australia/Oceania) which will be presenting their work to the other students and to Milanese audiences.

The schools and universities will be invited through an open call by ITI and then chosen by a board which will include the Piccolo Teatro. During the festival, the school’s rooms will be the location of workshops and masterclasses organised by the guest schools and directors.

The International Theatre Institute (ITI) was founded in 1948 by the first director general of UNESCO, Sir Julian Huxley, and the writer J.B. Priestly, in the period between the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the Cold War which saw the division of the world in East and West with the Iron Curtain.  The aim of the founders was to create an organisation inspired by the cultural and educational mission of UNESCO which dedicated its efforts to the improving of conditions for theatres and theatrical artists. An organisation which was to create platforms for international exchange and training in the educational arts, aimed both at beginners and professionals, and the commitment of the theatre to dialogue and peace. ITI is now the largest entertainment arts organisation in the world with more than 90 centres spread throughout the world.
