Reza Moatarian:

A way to keep the theater lights on during the Coronavirus Pandemic

Iran Theater- Reza Moatarian, the master photographer of the shows, who recently captured and released the images of the online performance of the show"The Legend of the Mermaid" in Honar Hall, wrote about his experience.

“Five to six months is a very short time compared to the life the earth, but this short time has changed many human habits in different parts of the world. For a while, the doors of theater halls have been open to theatergoers, but the coincidence of this reopening with the second wave of the coronavirus has caused the theater audience to decrease in an unprecedented way, so that the theater troupes that were in line to perform were canceled. They let it go!”

Honar Hall started a new experience with the online show "The Legend of the Mermaid", which I witnessed on one side. The theater group had been present in the hall to coordinate with the filming and internet broadcasting team from 3:00 PM, while according to the previous  announcement , the live and virtual performance of the play was scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM. With a few fixed and mobile cameras, they did their best to have an acceptable output for their online audience.

The TV director and the technical agents and broadcasters on the balcony of the hall checked all the scenes on their monitors so that this new experience of Iranian theater would face the least problems and objections. The show started and as it was seen from the group, the work went on without any problems and finally ended successfully.

I do not judge the spectators of this online theater and I do not know whether watching online theater is really as pleasure as to watching the show in the hall or not, but I personally witnessed the efforts of a large group of technical and artistic agents who used their full capacity to make this a new experience.  It‘s a way to keep the theater lights on during the Coronavirus Pandemic

The play "The Legend of the Mermaid" will be staged every day except Saturdays at 8 pm for  Honar Hall located in Haft Tir Square, South Mofteh Street, Varzandeh Street.
