Shajarian was a national treasure

Iran Theater- The Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Seyed Abbas Salehi, expressed his condolences over the death of Mohammad Reza Shajarian in a message

The great maestro, who had been in fragile health conditions in the past year, died at the age of 80 at Tehran's Jam Hospital on Thursday.

                           

Shajarian was undisputed master of Persian traditional (classical) singing and is regarded as a national treasure by both musicians and music lovers.

Abbas Salehi wrote:” : The death of the enduring song of Iran, Maestro Mohammad Reza Shajarian, caused deep sorrow and regret.”

“Shajarian is a symbol of original Iranian music and one of the symbols of the artistic identity of this land. The various aspects of the late maestro, along with his unparalleled intelligence in choosing the right treasure of Persian poetry and literature, immortalized his song and music.”

“An important part of Iranian literature with his song reached the ears and souls of the young and adolescent generation and introduced them to the wisdom and literature of this rich land.”

He added:” Master's song is the history of Iranian feelings and mood in the last half century. His works were a reflection of regrets and hopes, worries and attachments, and in a word, the mood of the good people of our country.”
