The music of Ashura Opera to analyze in "Music Box"

Iran Theater- The Radio show "Music Box" program will analyzes the music of Ashura opera by Behrouz Gharibpour on Radio Namayesh.

Its music was composed by Behzad Abdi and Mohammad Motamedi sang the opera with a choir.

                         

 

Gharibpour’s Ashura has been staged in many international theater festivals in Spain, Algeria, Syria, Poland and Italy.The play was warmly received at the Charleville-Mezieres’s International Puppet Theatre Festival in France, 2011, when it was given two extra performances.Gharibpour’s Hafez opera puppet show was  also went on stage in Dubai during three-day program from November 18 through 20,2013.

 

 

 

The opera has been adapted from the life and works of the Persian lyric poet Hafez Shirazi.

 

Behrouz Gharibpour is considered one of the pioneers of traditional Persian puppet theatre, known for his extensive research on Qajar puppetry.

 

He has received many international awards such as The Hans Christian Andersen Award in 2002 and Sierna d’Oro (Arrivano dal mare) in 2008.

 

 

 

Macbeth, Mowlavi, Ashura and Rostam and Sohrab are among his better-known works.

 

Behrouz Gharibpour  (born 1950 in Sanandaj) is an Iranian theatre director and pioneer of traditional Persian puppet theatre

 

He studied theatre at Tehran University and at Dramatic Arts Academy in Rome (Silvio D'Amico). He founded Tehran and Esfahan puppet theatre centres and changed Tehran’s slaughterhouse into the greatest Iran’s Cultural Centre. He has experienced in writing and directorship in fields such as theatre, puppet theatre, cinema, documentary movies, and T.V.

 

Gharibpour is known for his solid research works on the Iranian puppetry as was commonly practiced during Qajar era. He was the president of the UNIMA.
