“The Glass Menagerie”  to  perform at Tehran theater

Iran Theater -A reading performance of “The Glass Menagerie” was staged at Tehran’s Azhman Theater .

Mehdi Asgharian is directing the play based on a Persian translation by Marjan Bakht-Minu.

Asgahrian also plays a role in the play and his troupe will give a performance every night until November 19. 

Amir Bashirenejad, Sarina Gudarzi, Marmar Motamedi-Dana, Nazanin Qorbani, Delara Tayyebi and Masureh Kameli are main members of the cast.

Other Iranian troupes have previously performed the play. The latest one was a reading performance of the play staged by director Romina Jahandideh at Tehran’s Jamshid Mashayekhi Theater in February.

Earlier in 2017, director Mikail Shahrestani’s troupe performed it at Tehran’s Theater House.

Tom, the protagonist in “The Glass Menagerie”, recalls scenes from his youth during the height of the Depression. It shows his mother, Amanda, trying to maintain a lost gentility in the midst of overwhelming poverty and cajoling her children into her idea of happiness. 

Tom also has a crippled older sister, Laura, who resembles her collection of glass animals in her delicate beauty and fragility.
