Farshid Gholipour to Iran Theater:

I like the surprise of the story

Iran Theater- Farshid Gholipour has recently directed a show that has a stunning atmosphere.

The theme of the play "Secrets of the Foothills" is about a place called Koohpayeh(Foothills) where some murders  happened and the effects of those murders was extended to an apartment in a small town near  Koohpayeh(Foothills) and the residents of that apartment were also involved.

"Secrets of the Mountains" is your first experience in stage directing. Have you been active in the field of theater acting and directing short films before?

- Yes, this is my first stage directing professionally,. I have already made twelve short films and one video feature, and I am also proud to have made the first independent feature film in Iranian cinema about Bahram Beyzai. I have appeared on stage in several show as an actor as well, but the secrets of the foothills are somehow my most serious work in the field of theater.

Tell us more about the atmosphere of the play.

- For me, the most important rule in writing this play was to tell a straightforward story that could communicate with the audience. Rules of storytelling was my most important concern when I was writing it. In fact, I was looking for a story that had elements such as enigma, questioning, discovery, intuition, and suspense. The story of this play is kind of criminal and enigmatic and there are traces of tragedy in it. However, the show also makes the audience laugh in some parts, which should be considered the grotesque hidden touch  in it.

The  show has  too many scenes, all of which are short in time. Weren't you afraid that the audience might not be connected?

If I say no, I have lied. I was afraid. But I wanted to use the cinematic technique to move the scenes, and I believed in my own idea. In this show, as soon as one scene is over, the player or actors of the next scene enter, and with a simple movement of light and some amount of music, the atmosphere for the audience changes.
