Behzad Farahani: Rituals are Parts of Our National Theater

Today the more we proceed, the more we go far from our national theater, which in no wise deserves it.

IRAN THEATER – Experienced playwright and theater director, Behzad Farahani in a talk with the headquarters of the 14th International Ritual-Traditional Theater Festival, said: "Ritual-traditional performance is part of our national theater which deserves more consideration to survive and grow, but our current situation is dissatisfactory since we distance ourselves from native forms and get closer to the western theater. Unfortunately nowadays our ritual-traditional theater is more neglected than the past and should be paid more attention to develop and extend the current debate of national theater. I believe that national theater drives from idolatry towards the history. All along the history, the national desires of Iranians have been so numerous and if we distance from these historical desires then we will lose an inseparable part of it which is our ritual-traditional theater.
The 14th International Ritual-Traditional Theater Festival will take place from Jul 30 to Aug 7 in Tehran.
