City Theater Complex to Host August Strindberg’s Stronger

Iran Theater-The opening ceremony of the play "Stronger" written by August Strindberg and directed by Javad Tolmi was held on the evening of Wednesday, 8 February, in the Shadow Hall of the City Theater Complex.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Javad Tolmi thanked the audience for attending the first performance of this play in the City Theater Complex.

He explained: August Strindberg is one of the most important and prominent playwrights in the world, whose play "Stronger" has been introduced to the audience as his most influential and important plays. The play " Stronger " is considered to be one of the most profound works of this artist, and together with our troupe, we tried to present it in a different format to the discerning audience of the theater.

He added: What will be  on stage tonight from the play "Stronger" in the Hall is due to the continuous efforts of a troupe that has worked hard to perform a thoughtful  show. An attempt in which the path traveled is different from Strindberg's play; Because many different version of stronger have been on stage in Iran and the world, each of which included different interpretations in the performance. The framework that we tried to present a new performance of to the audience based on the activities that have been done in this field.

The Stronger (Swedish: Den starkare) is an 1889 Swedish play by August Strindberg.The play consists of only one scene. The characters are two women: a "Mrs. X", who speaks, and a "Miss. Y", who is silent, an example of a dramatic monologue.

It was adapted into a 1952 opera by composer Hugo Weisgall and there have been numerous film and television adaptations of the work.

 It has also been expanded and adapted into a forty-minute English-language zarzuela with a Madrid setting by Derek Barnes (2010), with text by Christopher Webber. Johan August Strindberg (22 January 1849 – 14 May 1912) was a Swedish playwright, novelist, poet, essayist and painter. A prolific writer who often drew directly on his personal experience, Strindberg's career spanned four decades, during which time he wrote more than sixty plays and more than thirty works of fiction, autobiography, history, cultural analysis, and politics.

Atesh Taghipour, a veteran  stage ,cinema and television actor o also said in the opening ceremony that Javad Tolmi is one of the lovely artists of Iranian theater, and I have witnessed his effective efforts in various fields of research for many years. . He is one of the people who has performed effective activities both in the educational fields and in the executive fields as a professor in the theater field, and I hope that such a masterful and compassionate look that I know from him will also be seen in the "Stronger" .
