Ahmad Najafi: Our theater is not public

Iran Theater-Ahmad Najafi, a film and television actor, says that theater is the foundation and backbone of cinema: theater needs continuity, improvement and innovation to survive.

He is an actor and film producer who started acting by appearing in "Dandan Mar" directed by Masoud Kimiaei and after that he continued acting with "Sergeant" by  Masoud Kimiaie.

He considers watching movies and theater as one of the main programs of his three years of life in New York and of course during his trips to Ukraine, and he believes that some of the works he has watched will always remain in his mind.

Despite your interest in theater; Why did you never play in the theater?

-It goes back to my way of looking at theater from the past until now. Many years ago, I lived in New York, the theater hub of the world, for about three years. During that time, I saw shows there, the pleasure of watching them remains in my memory until this moment; But when I returned to Iran from America, my first encounter with the show made me discouraged towards this art, and unfortunately, my opinion has not changed much in recent years. We must keep in mind that neglecting the smallest details in the theater will alienate the audience . Sometimes we are not careful in choosing an actor and matching his appearance with the role. This is only a small part of these weaknesses.

What can be done for the survival and growth of the theater?

-New ideas should be in the theater. Our adaptation is not good either. Unfortunately, our theater is very limited. Our theater is not familiar with the theater of the world and is not sufficiently connected with it. Of course, this is a problem that artists cannot be completely blamed for.

It is not bad that we learn from the greats of the world's theater, perform their works and adapt them, but our theater and even our cinema has not developed as much as it should, and in my opinion, the works are not worthy of Iran and Iranians.

For example, "Death of a Salesman" written by Arthur Miller is adapted in China so much that 100,000 people watch it a night and connect with it, but unfortunately, I personally could not connect with many of our adapted works; Because those works were far from the realities of my mind and society.
