The show The God of Hell has been on stage in Tehran’s City Theater Complex.
Siavash Jaame talked about with Iran Theater about his show.
The show "The God of Hell" has been staged in Iran for the first time. What made you decide to direct this play?
- Last year and during the previous administration of the City Theater Complex, I had reserved a hall there to perform the show. I wanted to stage a completely Iranian play, so I contacted the writer to get the right, but playwright told me that it needed 30 million tomans for the right. I regretted performing that play and chose Sam Shepard's play and started reading it, and finally, with the help of Milad Qotbizadeh, we translated it.
It seems that directing this play was difficult and your performance as the main character is brilliant. Did you have any challenges?
- I am trained in experimental theater method and I believe that the show should not stop under any circumstances, even if the actor is removed for some reason, the director should have something that will not be a problem. Honestly, I am very serious and grumpy at work. This seriousness can be felt in the rehearsals and in the work of my cast, and their performances on the stage. Because I myself accompanied the translator. About the character I played, I connected with his emotions and the way he expressed his pain, and that's why I played him.
Are you satisfied with the performance of the cast?
- First of all, I must say that I am very happy to work with Bahram Sarvarinejad, Mehdi Rahimi and Azam Erfani, they did not leave me alone. Then I have to say that we saw the performances that I expected to see on the stage, and as I said, we are witnessing their completion on the stage.
How did you find the reception of the audience?
- Our troupe has no other support than the audience, I have tried my best to direct a show in my 60s so that the audience is satisfied and doesn't leave the hall unsatisfied, the feedback I receive is very good. I hear many positive comments and that's enough for me.
