Omid Bonakdar on Directing the show "Fox Mafia"

Iran Theater-Omid Bonakdar, the director of the play reading "Fox Mafia" says that after years of working in the cinema, I felt that I miss the atmosphere of the theater and the intimacy of those troupes. It is better to bring something from the cinema with me. After 27 years away from the theater stage, Omid Bankdar, the cinema director, has returned to the theater with the show "Fox Mafia" and wrote a play based on "Pulp fiction " by Roger Avery and Quentin Tarantino and ‘s directed it from Feb. 14 in Nofel Loshato Theater.

You have been working in cinema for several years and you have not directed a theater for a long time. What made you think of the Fox Mafia?
-I started my career in the theater. I used to paint and because of the experience of group work in the field of visual arts, I decided to learn stage design. At that time, the Cinema Museum located in Ferdows Garden  and There was a film school, and like American universities, it had an entrance exam because it was not under the supervision of the Ministry of Science and was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Guidance. The teacher of stage design classes was Iraj Raminfer; he was  designer of all the works of my favorite filmmaker Bahram Bayzaei. It was during his classes that I fell in love with cinema. After that course, I participated in the entrance exam and went to study filmmaking course, and my life changed completely. A brilliant course taught by mavericks such as Nasser Taghvai, Bahram Bayzaei, Mohammad Reza Aslani, Kamran Shirdel, Homayoun Paivar, Ahmad Zabeti- Jahromi, etc.
Until this year, the investment offered to cooperate and I thought that now that I am going to return from the cinema to the theater, it would be better to bring something from the cinema with me, and what could be more interesting than an adaptation of Tarantino's Pulp Fiction?

What was the necessity of this performance?
-Art work is a necessity for every artist; The need for expression, persistence, presence, production, expansion, fostering creativity and discovering new fields. The necessity of this performance has been the same for me as every film I have made or every painting I have drawn or  every screenplay I have written; But this time, the directing the show was a new field for me to test myself and my ability.

Prominent Iranian actors cooperated with you in the play reading show, tell about the cooperation and interaction with them.
-Every director needs an actor to embody the roles on paper, and every actor needs a director to flourish his talents , creativity and ability. This is a cooperation and interaction. I have had the good fortune to always collaborate with professional actors in my work.

After a long time, you returned to the theater; How do you see the conditions of theater?

-I must say that I am happy to be back in the theater, but I admit that I had a better idea of the situation. When I was in the backstage of theater groups and visited the backstage of works such as "Bitter Coffee" by Dr. Ali Rafiei , there was a more intimate atmosphere, but today I feel that there are  professional relationships, in their wrong way in theater space.Capitalism and valuation of works based on box office and sales are things that are in conflict with the essence of theater.
