Meisam Abdi: Group playwriting was a pleasant experience

Iran Theater-Meisam Abdi, the director of the play "Romeo, Juliet and a few other characters", says that the experience of writing the play as a teamwork was very interesting and pleasant for him.

Abdi will stage the play "Romeo and Juliet and some other characters" on April  3,2024 at 21:00 at the Hamon Theater.

"Romeo, Juliet and some other characters" was written by Amin Nabi Elahi, Amir Hossein Ashrafi and Meisam Abdi.

Meisam Abdi explained about choosing this play for performance: "These days, I see that some people are looking for play that have specific characteristics, for example, they ask, do you know a play for three actors or a play for a man and a woman to act? It is like the parable of a person who has a button and wants to sew a coat for it.”

He went on to say: "I think that the best thing a theater director can do is to choose a play and the cast. If the cast and the play is good, everything will be arranged in the most correct way. I found some people with the same mindset, and the three of us got involved in writing Romeo, Juliet and a few other characters for about two years. I developed the main idea together with Amin Nabi -Elahi and Amir- Hossein Ashrafi, and after we created the structure  , we went to characterization with the help of psychology, and dialogue writing was the final step of our work. After the final draft was ready, it was rewritten about 5 or 6 times.”

Meisam Abdi believes that the experience of group writing has been very interesting and pleasant for him. “Basically , the team gathers and one person writes the play during ideation process, but group writing was a double pleasure for us, and we are satisfied with the result.”

He clearly said: "As a director, I attach great importance to the play and I am looking for a worldview, and I consider the reason for performing this play to be the questions that we all have to ask ourselves today: "Where do we stand in the world?", "What do we need to do?" Should we believe?", "Is the dream real or is the reality a dream?" And... In a world that is full of boring reality, we do daydream, and this dream is realized in the theater; A theater that is a small island of happiness."
