Below is a brief talk which he has made with IRAN THEATER:
Are your works all solely based on antic Iranian-Tajik literature?
No, during 20 years of my profession I have also staged many classics such as Shakespeare, Moliere, Chekov, and Gogol.
This production seems to be your first experience in the field of traditional theater.
Yes, this is my first traditional production. Before now I was mostly staging Russian dramas.
Why does your work highly relay on music?
Rostam & Sohrab is being performed with the typical music of Tajikistan. This adaptation widely enjoys Tajik rituals to find more national taste.
The production's performing style is so like Iranian traditional theater, Ta'ziyeh.
Yes, I deliberately have made use of this style.
Symbols and arbitrary signs play an important role in Ta'ziye, but you have hardly used these elements. Did it happen intentionally or derived from your poor familiarity with this theater form?
Last year we staged the work during Moharam, so I used Ta'ziye elements to reflect that special atmosphere.
I did not want to illustrate the real Rostam and Sohrab. I intended to show the audience that they are just actors; therefore I dressed them all uniformly. I wanted the actors to pretend to be the characters.
