Amin Golestaneh: We bring together Hollywood monsters with Iranian dives

Iran Theater- Amin Golestaneh, the writer and director of “ Monster,Inc.", said that there are very few fantasy and musical performances with an approach similar to Disney's works in Iran’s theater, and that is why he decided to bring the character of Sullivan with Iranian dives on to the stage.

The fantasy musical show "Monster ,Inc" (Sullivan in Iran), written and directed by Amin Golestaneh, runs from the April 16 to the 30th of May 21 at 19:00 at the Iran Mall Hall.

The cooperation of Iranian Dives with Sullivan

Amin Golestaneh introduced his show as an adaptation of a Hollywood animation called "Monsters, Inc.", which has been Iranianized with the presence of dives from Iranian folklore stories and their companionship with Sullivan.

Monsters, Inc. (also known as Monsters, Incorporated) is a 2001 American animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures.

Golestaneh talked about combining the story of a world-famous animation with Iranian folk tales: "We lack fantasy and musical performances with an approach similar to Hollywood companies where animation characters can come on stage, and for the first time, I introduced a foreign animation character into an Iranian story. Previously, musical fantasy theaters such as " Les Misérables" and "Mary Poppins" have been produced in Iran, but these two were classic works and we have not had a story that turns into a  play from the world of animation.”

Referring to the appropriate characters from Iranian stories to accompany Sullivan, he continues: "I became interested in the past culture and native fictional characters and folklore stories that my grandfather told me when I was a child, and by examining monsters world, I discovered that they could connect in modern days. So I studied about 100 Iranian dives from different regions and examined their lives from the point of view of mythology, narrative, and history, finally I found 5 dives  that have the ability to change and were suitable for comedy children shows. I chose them to help Sullivan."

I looked at the world from a child's point of view

He mentioned that his goal in writing the story was to look at the world from a child's point of view, and he emphasized that at the same time, he tried to make parents and other family members enjoy the comedy and musical situations that happen.

The director of the "Monsters ,Inc" referred to the bold and brave look of children and teenagers of the solar 2000’s and 2010’s in Iran: "The new generation is involved in technology and modernity, and with previous techniques and resorting to force, they cannot be trained or to do. The kid of our show is also a symbol of this generation, and for that reason, he is trying to show that the period of fear and threats is outdated and requests to negotiate and talk with him.”
