Narges Yazdi: Publishing e-books is our priority

Namayesh Publications has presented more than 210 printed and e- books in the 35th Tehran International Book Fair, which took place  at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Mosalla from May 18 to 28,2024.

The Office of Education, Research and Drama Publications of the General Directorate of Performing Arts has presented more than 60 printed books and 150 E-books during 2024 Tehran International Book Fair.

The director of Namayesh Publications,  Narges Yazdi , explained about the presentation of E- books in the Book Fair: "The mass of requests from artists and researchers from all over the country to publish their works in our Publications has made electronic publishing more on our agenda."

He said that the General Directorate of Dramatic Arts is crucial for strengthening playwriting and performance of Iranian works on stage and emphasized: "In the past year, we launched a play database on the site so that playwrights can register their works while maintaining their legal rights and groups who want to perform Iranian plays can also access these works in this way."

She went on to say: "Due to the conditions of publishing and the limited budget, all our efforts are to maintain a balance to publish the theatrical and theoretical works of veteran artists and introduce young talents to the artistic community; But the most important point is the quality of the works, which is decided by the expert book council in the publishing house.”

Narges Yazdi explained that books by Iranian authors are less popular than foreign authors: "Unfortunately, in the Iranian theater book market, books of foreign authors ​​are much more popular than Iranian ones, which should be analyzed." Reading translated plays is not a bad thing, but it means that the domestic plays have not been able to attract the attention of the audience and the performing groups. That's why our priority is to support the country's playwrights and artists, the publication of foreign  plays has not been a priority so far."
