Artistic and academic figures visited Namayesh publishing booth:
From the need to pay attention to dramaturgy to the need for intellectualism in theater

Iran Theater- Artists and lecturers of the university, attended the Namayesh publishing booth of the Tehran Book Fair, introduced the dramaturgy of foreign plays, intellectualism in the field of performance and paying attention to the issue of spreading knowledge through book printing as one of the most essential needs of Iranian theater today.
The 35th Tehran International Book Fair (TIBF) took place at Tehran's Imam Khomeini Mosalla from May 18 to 28,2024.
Namayesh publications of the General Directorate of Dramatic Arts were also present in this exhibition by presenting more than 60 books in printed version and 150 titles as E-books.
During this exhibition, several theater and academic figures visited the Namayesh publishing booth, some of their words are summarized below.
Jahangir Almasi: The efforts of theater artists publishing books are commendable
- The efforts made by theater publishers and theater artists in the field of producing theoretical books and various plays are valuable and highly respected. The books printed by the show publications show the deep effort of a group of enthusiastic, thoughtful and artistic people who are trying to find the meaning and spread it to the society.
- Now other forms such as e-book and audio are being produced for quick data transfer in the field of publishing, and fortunately, Namayesh publishing has taken a good step considering the necessity of updating services and responding to the needs of authors to publish books as well as those who are interested in reading.
Manouchehr Akbarlou: We need intellectuals in the theater
- Brilliant works such as "Shahnameh" by Ferdowsi, "Iliad and Odyssey" by Homer and other literary masterpieces are for all people of the world. It is true that people have written books based on the geography of their lives, but they have global issues beyond geographical boundaries that can be understood and adapted by the whole world.
- Dramaturgy is very important in translating foreign dramatic texts into Farsi or performing them in Iran. The financial problems of theater groups are not a reason for not revising the play and performance method. Most of the time, we see the reproduction of old adapted works, which are staged again without any changes.
- We have good technicians in the theater, but we still suffer from the lack of thoughtful and intellectual people in the theater. I think an intellectual is someone who takes advantage of the audience's feedback, in order to improve the work, which we have been doing poorly in this field for years.
Hamidreza Afshar: Dramaturgy of translated plays is necessary for performance in Iran
Fortunately, the academic and specialized activities of the publishing house have had a good feedbacks, and it definitely needs financial support to produce e-books and printed books.
- We need relevant and up-to-date sources in the field of translation and authoring, so that we can make good progress in the issue of transferring global experiences. Definitely, this up-to-dateness helps that the productions of Namayesh publications are a more reliable source in terms of theoretical developments and plays.
- The dramaturgy of translated plays is very necessary for performance in Iran, unfortunately, we are lacking in this field.
