Bahram Ebrahimi on the show “Badger” and monologue

Bahram Ebrahimi, actor and stage director, has been busy nowadays. He‘s acted in the show  "Badger" written and directed by Ali -Mohammad Kazemnia which is has been on stage on Hall 3 of Shahrazad Theater Complex.

 

Iran Theater talked to Ebrahimi about his new show.

 

What attracted you to the character of the badger that you accepted this role?

-My thesis and Mohammad Chermshir's dramatic literature thesis was a one - man  show. So this kind of show has always been my favorite. This play was also a monologue that focused on the life of badger who has a strange character. He, like all of us, is digging his own grave from the very beginning of his birth. This interesting idea convinced me to accept the role. A good play, a good director and a role that no one but me can play are my criteria.

 

Does the actor have to be very experienced and capable because the show is mostly based on the monologues of the badger?

 

Monologue is a difficult and important challenge for the actor, which requires insight and artistic awareness and knowledge. The actor in this kind of show must keep the audience fascinated with his voice, gesture and movements until the end of the story. With these conditions, the actor can express a monologue in such a way that it captures the audience's attention and does not allow them to think about anything else.

 

So do you recommend performing a monologue to young actors?

Definitely, because this is a challenge that the more you improve in it, the faster you can improve in acting. There are many actors who perform monologues in various situations, but after a while no one cares about them; Here the ability of the actor is determined.

 

How do you evaluate the importance of creating mise-en-scène and atmosphere in dialogue-based shows in relation to the audience?

If the play is performed in a soulless and uncompromising way, it will become a speech. The speech is interesting for a short time and after that it becomes boring. Therefore, the creation of the mise-en-scène and atmosphere, which is done with the help of the production team during the rehearsal, will surely keep the work away from lack of interest.

And your final words?

Theater is the most fundamental aspect of a country's culture, if there is no theater, the culture and art of a country will suffer. Theater  bring happiness, sadness, thought and education to people. I hope that this art will always be eternal.
