13th Havana International Theater Festival

13th Havana International Theater Festival

The Cuban National Council on Performing Arts (CNAE) has invited artists from around the world to take part in the 13th International Theater Festival, dedicated to the 50 years of Cuban Theater under the Revolution, set for October 30 to November 8, 2009, in Havana, Cuba. Venues include Havana theaters, conference halls, and open spaces.

Workshops, colloquiums, conferences, book and magazine launchings, art shows, and meetings with actors, dramatists, directors, and art critics are also part of the festival events. The event’s program, which includes adults and children’s theater, as well as theater dance, is aimed at promoting solidarity and integration among the world’s peoples. Also on October 30 the colloquium on 50 Years of Cuban Theater 50 under the Revolution will begin at the Villena Room at UNEAC in Havana, starting at 10:00am. The colloquium will end on November 7.
The Cuban Revolution, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this past January 1, turned Cuban theater into an essential space for artistic, social and human research, bringing together such concepts as revolution and change, audience and people, art and society, theater and nation. The festival serves to celebrate the enormous contributions by Cuban theater masters, artists, and promoters who have led the way during the past 5 decades and who have earned international prestige for Cuban theater.
Local theater groups— such as El Público, Argos Teatro, Buendía, Teatro de la Luna, Pálpito, Teatro de las Estaciones, and El Ciervo Encantado—will be represented on the various stages. Participants will come from numerous countries, including Argentina, Brazil, México, Colombia, United States, Turkey, France, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, Ecuador, Germany, and Chile.
