Studio Six of The Moscow Art Theater performs Dostoevsky at Baryshnikov Arts Center

Studio Six Theater Company is hosting internationally renowned director, Alexandre Marine to direct an original adaptation of Dostoevsky’s “The Possessed”, titled, …the Itsy Bitsy Spider… for a limited preview at Baryshnikov Arts Center.

Alexandre Marine, honored as a Distinguished Artist of Russia, and a recipient of many awards for theatrical excellence. Marine has been one of the principal directors of The Moscow Art Theater and has directed productions in Moscow, New York, Montréal, Helsinki, Berlin, and Tokyo among many others. He is the founder and artistic director of Montréal’s Théâtre Deuxième Réalité and one of the founding members of Oleg Tabakov’s Tabakerka Theatre in Moscow. Marine’s work has been described as “…marked by vibrant imagination, a vicious sense of humor and exuberant iconoclasticism…”

…the Itsy Bitsy Spider… revolves around a controversial chapter of Dostoevsky’s novel that was originally censored in Russia. Exploring fanaticism and ideals, revolution and conspiracy, Dostoevsky’s tale is haunting not only because we know Russia’s fate but also because the characters are startlingly familiar to us today. Marine’s direction brings relationships and the psychology to the fore, creating a moving image of a town torn apart by a few men and their mysterious pasts.

This limited preview is the first phase of production as Studio Six looks to gain attention and support to widen the scope of this project.
