Marzieh Broumand, the Jury member of Marivan Street Theater Festival:

Being together is the secret of a nation's survival

Iran Theater-Marzieh Broumand, the jury of the international competition section of the 17th Marivan Street Theater Festival, believes that ordinary life has been combined with theater and drama in Marivan City, and by watching the show, people find more solidarity together. Because laughing together and shedding tears together creates unity and being together is the secret of a nation's survival.

She said about her participation in the festival: "I have been known the Marivan Street Theater Festival for a long time, and even when I was the artistic director  of the Puppet Festival, I was also aware of the activities of street groups. Marivan has always been attractive to me due to the fact that the people in the city have a special bias towards this festival. Marivan and the citizen have established a deep relationship with the street theater and they look forward to the festival every year."

She says that the opportunity to attend Marivan was very attractive to her: "Although it is sometimes difficult for a woman of my age to move and travel, every time I take action and participate in such events, I feel that I have done the right thing. It’s always been a pleasure being with people and getting to know different people from different cities, and now I am very happy to attend this festival."

Broumand explained about the problems of performing street theater in Iran: "One of the main problems is the lack of suitable space for street performances. In Tehran and many other  big cities, there are no suitable places to perform this type of works. Our cities lack suitable open areas where people can spontaneously gather around and enjoy street art. Although in our culture, religious shows such as Ta'ziyeh have always been performed in the streets and  Ta’ziyeh have created social solidarity.”

She said: "Combining normal life with theater and drama is what we see in Marivan and it is very important. People bond more by watching the show together; Because laughing together and crying together creates unity. Being together is the secret of a nation's survival."
